Digital Service Fellows don’t just serve in the Philadelphia Chester school districts providing tech support, we are out in the community planting gardens too.
For a week in December 2015, the Digital Service Fellows, participated in the international Hour of Code. We traveled to a handful of schools where were guided children in code.org activities.
Here are some images from the 2015 AmeriCorps Launch. We had such a blast swearing in and serving our community.
The Digital Service Fellows spent the 2015 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service hosting The S.T.E.M. Family Fair at the Philadelphia Housing Authority’s Norman Blumberg Apartments. The DSFs set up and ran a variety of fun and educational activities that received great feedback from the residents and community members. The CEO of the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Kelvin Jeremiah, was in attendance and thanked the Digital Service Fellows for their commitment to community building. Also in attendance, Patricia Schwartz, Executive Director of PennServe, came to participate in the activities and thanked the DSFs for continuing Dr. King’s legacy of national service. The S.T.E.M. activities included exploration with Augmented Reality, the Hour of Code activities, Garage Band, the Anatomy of a Laptop, and a fun Photobooth!
Please check out some pictures of the days activities!
